Barb September/October 2022 data delays and reissues statement 15 September 2022 Data delays In recent weeks, there has been a significant number of delays in the delivery of our daily audience data. We are sorry for the inconvenience and disruption caused. We are working closely with Kantar, our panel-management contractor, to ensure the root cause of the delays is identified and remedied. Please find Kantar’s statement below with more information. Statement from Kantar on data delays In readiness for the new Barb 2024 service, the entire panel is currently being transitioned with a complete Kantar technology refresh. Whilst our focus remains on maintaining the delivery of daily TV ratings, this transition poses additional complexity as we retrieve and process data from two systems simultaneously. As Kantar implements the new system in more homes, many edge cases emerge. These need to be validated in both data sets so that we ensure consistency, resulting in additional time needed for quality assurance and therefore some recent delays in data delivery. Whilst no viewing data has been lost and same day delivery has been maintained, we are cognizant of the impact on users and wish to apologise wholeheartedly for the disruption caused. As the migration to the new Kantar technology (PeopleMeter 7) progresses, Barb will benefit from earlier processing which will provide more time on a daily basis for us to iron out these challenges. Kantar is investing significant levels of additional resource to ensure we manage the service effectively through this major transition and return consistently to normal delivery timescales as soon as possible. We are grateful to Barb and its end users for your patience. ——————————- Data re-issues BBC viewing data reissue for Yorkshire and Lincolnshire Separately, there is going to be a reissue of some BBC viewing data. Due to a manual error, viewing to regional BBC programmes in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire was misattributed to unidentified BBC viewing. Kantar will be reissuing BBC data from May 23rd to August 4th, 2022. No other viewing should be affected by this re-run. The first batch of data will be reissued on October 19th, with subsequent batches of two weeks’ worth of data published every two weeks, with the final batch released on December 30th. Reissued files will be published in six tranches. Please contact Barb client services for the detailed schedule of release dates and file types. ITV / Channel 5 data reissue There is going to be a reissue of TV-set viewing data for ITV and Channel 5 channels. An issue has been identified in the watermarking technique for these channels, which led to some live viewing not being reported. As a consequence, Kantar will be reissuing viewing data for the following channels from September 17th to 27th 2022: ITV Anglia, ITV London, ITV MidWest, ITV North, ITV Scotland, ITV South East, ITV UTV, ITV Westcountry, ITV London, ITV Meridian, ITV Wales, ITV2, ITV4, ITVBe, Channel 5, 5STAR and 5USA. The reissue is scheduled for October 26th. No other viewing should be affected by this re-run. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.
